Helping You Get to the Root Cause of Digestive Symptoms

At Naturally with Leah, I take the time to understand your complete health picture. Together, we’ll explore the factors that may be contributing to your digestive symptoms and develop a realistic, evidence-informed plan tailored to your individual needs.

Who is this service for:

Have you ever been told:

“Your tests are normal.”

…yet you still don’t feel well?

Many people live with digestive symptoms for months—or even years—assuming they’re simply part of getting older, having a sensitive stomach or living a busy life.

Others have tried:

  • Multiple diets
  • Probiotics
  • Elimination diets
  • Supplements
  • Internet advice

…without ever understanding why their symptoms keep returning.

If this sounds familiar, you’re not alone.

Whether your symptoms are occasional or affecting your quality of life every day, this service is designed to help you better understand your digestive health and support your long-term wellbeing.

Conditions I commonly see in clinic

I commonly see people experiencing:

.

Could Your Gut Be Affecting More Than Your Digestion?

Your digestive system does far more than digest food.

It plays an important role in nutrient absorption, immune function, hormone regulation and overall wellbeing.

Some people experiencing digestive concerns may also notice:

  • Fatigue
  • Brain fog
  • Iron deficiency
  • Vitamin deficiencies
  • Skin concerns
  • Frequent infections
  • Autoimmune conditions
  • Hormonal changes
  • Difficulty maintaining a healthy weight

These symptoms don’t necessarily mean your gut is the underlying cause, but they can be an important piece of the overall health picture

Conditions I Commonly Support

Every person is different, and no two treatment plans are the same.

I regularly support people experiencing:

Many of my patients also have digestive symptoms alongside thyroid disorders, menopause, autoimmune disease or other chronic health conditions. My approach considers the whole person rather than focusing on a single symptom.

Why Digestive Health Matters

Your digestive system is closely connected with almost every other system in your body.

Healthy digestion supports:

  • Nutrient absorption
  • Immune function
  • Hormone balance
  • Energy production
  • Healthy bowel function
  • A diverse gut microbiome
  • Overall wellbeing

When digestive health isn’t functioning well, it may contribute to symptoms that seem unrelated to your gut.

Understanding these connections helps us develop a more personalised approach to your care.

What to expect at your first consult with me

What to Expect at Your First Consultation

One of the most common things I hear is:

“I’ve had stomach problems for years—I thought this was just normal.”

While digestive symptoms are common, they shouldn’t simply be accepted without trying to understand why they’re occurring.

During your consultation we’ll discuss:

  • Your digestive symptoms
  • Medical history
  • Current medications
  • Previous investigations
  • Diet and eating habits
  • Lifestyle
  • Stress
  • Sleep
  • Health goals

If appropriate, I may recommend further testing before developing a personalised management plan.

Where required, I’ll also work collaboratively with your GP or specialist to ensure you receive the most appropriate care.

Testing that may be appropriate

Not everyone requires testing.

Recommendations are based on your symptoms, medical history and previous investigations.

Where appropriate, testing may include:

Blood Tests

  • Iron studies
  • Vitamin B12
  • Folate
  • Vitamin D
  • Thyroid function
  • Liver function
  • Inflammatory markers
  • Coeliac screening

Functional Testing

Depending on your presentation, I may recommend:

  • Comprehensive stool microbiome analysis
  • SIBO breath testing
  • Organic Acids Testing
  • Food intolerance testing where clinically appropriate

Testing is recommended only when it is likely to provide useful clinical information to guide your management.

Nutrition and Lifestyle Support

Nutrition and Lifestyle Support

There is no single “gut health diet” that works for everyone.

Social media is full of conflicting advice encouraging people to eliminate food groups, purchase numerous supplements or follow restrictive diets.

My approach is different.

Rather than focusing on quick fixes, I aim to understand why your symptoms may be occurring and develop a personalised nutrition and lifestyle plan that is realistic, practical and sustainable.

Nutrition That Fits Your Life

Your plan may include guidance on:

  • Building balanced meals
  • Supporting a healthy gut microbiome
  • Increasing fibre appropriately
  • Improving hydration
  • Meal timing
  • Identifying foods that may contribute to symptoms
  • Optimising nutrient intake
  • Creating healthy habits that suit your family and lifestyle

My goal isn’t to give you a long list of foods you can never eat again.

Instead, I focus on helping you enjoy a varied, nourishing diet that supports your health.

Lifestyle Factors Matter

Digestive health is influenced by much more than food.

Together we’ll also consider:

  • Stress
  • Sleep
  • Physical activity
  • Eating pace
  • Previous antibiotic use
  • Travel history
  • Medications
  • Hormonal changes
  • Other health conditions

Looking at your health as a whole allows us to develop strategies that are practical, achievable and personalised.

Practitioner-Only Supplements

Where clinically appropriate, I may recommend practitioner-only nutritional supplements or herbal medicines to complement your nutrition and lifestyle plan.

Recommendations are based on your health history, medications, symptoms and treatment goals.

If supplements are recommended, I’ll explain:

  • Why they may help
  • How to take them safely
  • What to expect
  • When they should be reviewed

When you should see your GP or go to Hospital emergency

While many digestive symptoms can be managed alongside naturopathic care, some symptoms require prompt medical assessment.

Please seek urgent medical attention if you experience:

  • Blood in your stool
  • Black or tarry stools
  • Severe abdominal pain
  • Persistent vomiting
  • Vomiting blood
  • Unexplained weight loss
  • Difficulty swallowing
  • Persistent fever with abdominal pain

I work collaboratively with GPs and specialists whenever further medical investigation is appropriate.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can a naturopath help with IBS?

Many people with IBS seek naturopathic support to help identify dietary, lifestyle and other contributing factors. Management is always individualised.

Will I need testing?

Not always. Recommendations are based on your symptoms, medical history and previous investigations.

Do I need a referral?

No referral is required to book a naturopathic consultation.

Do you offer Telehealth?

Yes. Consultations are available Australia-wide via secure Telehealth.

Will you work with my GP?

Absolutely. Collaborative healthcare often provides the best outcomes.

Why GUT health matters to me

People often ask why I chose to focus so much of my practice on gut health.

The answer is simple: I understand what it’s like to live with digestive problems.

Long before I became a naturopath, I experienced ongoing gut issues myself. Living with coeliac disease, and later facing liver and pancreatic health challenges, taught me how much digestive health can influence energy, mood, nutrient absorption and quality of life.

Those experiences don’t replace my professional training—they complement it. They help me appreciate the frustrations many patients feel when they’ve tried multiple approaches without finding lasting answers.

My aim is to listen carefully, investigate where appropriate, and develop realistic, personalised strategies that fit your lifestyle.
