Functional Testing

Stop Guessing. Start Understanding.

Advanced Functional Testing to Help Uncover What’s Driving Your Symptoms

Have you ever been told…

“Your blood tests are normal.”

Yet you still don’t feel normal?

Maybe you’re constantly tired.

Your digestion has changed.

You feel bloated after eating.

Your hormones seem out of balance.

You struggle with brain fog, joint pain or ongoing inflammation.

Perhaps you’ve tried different diets, supplements or medications, but you’re still searching for answers.

Your symptoms are real.

Sometimes they’re your body’s way of telling you something needs further investigation.

At Naturally with Leah, I use advanced functional testing alongside a comprehensive health assessment to help uncover factors that may be contributing to your symptoms.

Not everyone needs testing.

But when it’s appropriate, it can provide valuable information that helps us move from guessing to understanding.

Because the right plan starts with understanding the bigger picture.

Your Symptoms Tell a Story

Your body is constantly giving you clues.

Rather than treating one symptom at a time, functional testing may help us understand how different body systems are working together.

You might be experiencing:

Ongoing fatigue

✔ Bloating or digestive discomfort

✔ Food sensitivities

✔ Brain fog

✔ Poor sleep

✔ Hormonal symptoms

✔ Autoimmune disease

✔ Frequent infections

✔ Low energy

✔ Skin conditions

✔ Nutrient deficiencies

✔ Unexplained symptoms

The goal isn’t simply to find another diagnosis.

It’s to gather meaningful information that helps explain why you’re feeling the way you do.

My Approach to Functional Testing

I don’t believe in ordering every test available.

Testing should answer an important question.

Every recommendation is made because I believe the results may help guide your treatment—not simply because the test exists.

Sometimes your existing pathology already tells us everything we need to know.

Sometimes additional testing helps us uncover information that wouldn’t otherwise be obvious.

And sometimes the most important part isn’t the testing itself—it’s helping you understand what the results mean and what practical steps to take next.

What Happens After Testing?

Understanding your results is just the beginning.

Following your results consultation you’ll receive personalised recommendations that may include:

✔ Nutrition advice

✔ Lifestyle strategies

✔ Practitioner-only supplements where appropriate

✔ Herbal medicine where suitable

✔ Further medical investigations if required

✔ Referral back to your GP or specialist when appropriate

The aim is always to turn information into action.

Why Choose Naturally with Leah?

Choosing a healthcare practitioner isn’t about finding someone who can order the most tests.

It’s about finding someone who knows how to use those results to help improve your health.

As a university-qualified naturopath and nutritionist, I combine detailed case taking, evidence-informed functional testing and practical nutrition advice to create personalised treatment plans.

I work collaboratively with your GP and other healthcare providers, ensuring recommendations complement your existing medical care.

Testing is only one piece of the puzzle.

Listening to your story will always come first.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to order functional testing before my first appointment ?

No. Many people don’t need additional testing. During your initial consultation, we’ll review your symptoms, medical history and any existing blood tests before deciding whether further testing is likely to be beneficial. Testing is only recommended when it may help guide your treatment plan.

Normal pathology results don’t always explain why you’re experiencing symptoms. I review your existing blood tests alongside your symptoms, diet, medical history and health goals to build a more complete picture. Sometimes your current results provide all the information we need, and sometimes additional testing may be appropriate.

Absolutely. Many patients bring pathology results from their GP or specialist. I can help explain what the results mean, how they relate to your symptoms and whether there are any areas that may benefit from further investigation or nutritional support.

No. Every recommendation is personalised. Most people only require one or two specific investigations, and many don’t need any additional testing at all. My goal is to recommend only the tests that are relevant to your health concerns.

The tests I recommend are performed by established pathology and functional testing laboratories. Like all investigations, they have strengths and limitations and are interpreted alongside your symptoms, medical history and conventional medical investigations—not in isolation.

Functional testing can provide valuable information about how different body systems are functioning, but it does not replace medical diagnosis where required. If I identify anything that needs further medical assessment, I’ll recommend that you follow up with your GP or appropriate specialist..

Your results are reviewed in detail during a follow-up consultation. We’ll discuss what the findings may mean, how they relate to your symptoms and develop a personalised plan that may include nutrition, lifestyle strategies, practitioner-only supplements and, where appropriate, referral back to your GP.

The cost depends on the type of test recommended. Not everyone requires additional testing, and any costs will always be discussed with you before proceeding so you can make an informed decision.

Many specialised functional pathology tests are privately funded and are not covered by Medicare. If standard pathology is appropriate, I may recommend discussing this with your GP, who can determine whether Medicare-funded testing is suitable

Anyone can order a test, but understanding what the results mean—and how they relate to your health—is where the real value lies. I don’t just provide a report; I help you interpret the findings in the context of your symptoms, medical history, nutrition and lifestyle, then work with you to create a practical plan for moving forward.

No. I believe testing should have a clear purpose. If I don’t think a test is likely to change your treatment plan, I won’t recommend it. My focus is on using the right information to help guide your care—not ordering tests simply because they’re available.

That’s completely okay. Many people book because they have symptoms but aren’t sure where to start. During your consultation, we’ll review your health history, existing blood tests and goals together. If additional testing could provide useful information, I’ll explain your options and why I think it may be beneficial. If it isn’t needed, I’ll tell you that too.

Ready to Find Answers?
